John Bosselman is an educator and school leader with more than two decades of experience spanning public, charter, and international education systems. John joined San Diego Unified in 2022, where he currently serves as Principal at Dana Middle School, and previously as an Associate Principal at Patrick Henry High School. Before joining San Diego Unified, he served as a founding leader and Director of Instruction, Innovation, and Rigor at Latitude 37.8 High School in Oakland, where he guided the school’s design and launch, led instructional innovation, and co-developed the adult learning systems that anchored teacher growth and student achievement. Latitude High School was selected as an XQ Super School in 2018 and joined the XQ Super School Community of Practice.
Earlier in his career, he worked in the United Kingdom with the Innovation Unit as Professional Development Lead for Learning through REAL Projects, a national research initiative exploring the impact of project-based learning on literacy and engagement. His work included coaching school leaders, supporting new school design, and leading international collaborations focused on deeper learning and organizational change. John taught as a humanities teacher and faculty mentor at High Tech High Chula Vista, where he taught within the high-quality project-based learning framework, co-designed the junior internship program, and senior project process. He continues to teach in the Educational Leadership Program at the High Tech High Graduate School of Education, where he mentors aspiring school leaders. He has a deep commitment to equity-driven innovation, adult learning, and the design of learning environments that connect students’ strengths to real-world challenges. John is currently pursuing his doctorate in Educational Leadership through the UC San Diego and CSU San Marcos Joint Doctoral Program. His research explores principal leadership identity, coaching, and the conditions that work towards equity. He has a master’s degree in School Leadership from the HTH GSE and Secondary Teaching from the University of New Hampshire.
