SDSU Doctoral Degree in Education

Emphasis in PK-12 School Leadership
Partnership with National Center for Urban School Transformation

The goals of the SDSU education doctorate program are to develop leaders who are:

  • Experts in educational leadership
  • Critical thinkers informed by scholarly literature
  • Transformational change agents
  • Self-aware, ethical professionals
  • Professionals who value and promote access, equity, and student success.

We find these to be consistent with the aims and mission of the National Center for Urban School Transformation and thus invite participants who successfully passed the National Principal/Principal Supervisor Certificate for Equity and Excellence Program to consider applying to the EdD program.

Benefits of participating in both programs includes the potential to:

  1. Reduce the time to degree from three years to two years. This is dependent on a successful dissertation defense, but the coursework can be accelerated based on completion of NCUST executive coaching.
  2. Reduce the cost of the degree by up to 30%. Again, this is dependent on a successful dissertation defense within the allotted time.
  3. Focus the dissertation on the action learning project designed and supported by NCUST.
  4. Include a certified NCUST coach as a potential member of the dissertation committee.

Specifics of the degree options and opportunities can be discussed with Dr. Douglas Fisher, Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership at SDSU, via email (dfisher@mail.sdsu.edu) or phone (619-594-2507).
