Dr. Chien has been in education for over 33 years and has held administrative positions with both school districts and county offices of education. Before moving into administration, Jeanette served as a bilingual elementary teacher and lead GATE teacher in Los Angeles Unified School District. She served as principal, executive director and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in districts in the San Gabriel Valley area of southern California before taking on the role of Chief Academic Officer at the Santa Clara Office of Education. Jeanette also served as Deputy Superintendent for the San Diego County Office of Education, where she led several departments that provide a vast number of support services for districts, schools and charter schools throughout the county.
Jeanette has a passion for ensuring students have access and opportunities to succeed and thrive. She has a deep commitment to serving the most vulnerable students and creating conditions that yield high levels of achievement. Her leadership and guidance have yielded the development of many resources and supports for system transformation in schools and districts, in addition to enabling schools to improve academic outcomes for students. Jeanette has also served as an Adjunct Professor in Educational Leadership for both Pepperdine University and the University of Southern California. Most recently, Dr. Chien served as the superintendent in Sonoma Valley Unified in Northern California.
